Art Collector: Pull Focus interview with Abdul Abdullah & Abdul-Rahman Abdullah

I couldn’t say no to the opportunity to talk with Abdul Abdullah & Abdul-Rahman Abdullah for Art Collector’s Pull Focus series. These are two artists whose work I hugely admire and respect but it was their friendship and brotherly love - and their creative relationship - that was the biggest joy to learn more about. Their exhibition Peripheries is on at Moore Contemporary in Perth right now.

Art Collector: Pull Focus interviews for Sydney Contemporary

In the absence of the annual Sydney Contemporary Art Fair at Carriageworks thanks to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, Art Collector magazine has been inviting writers to sit down with artists who are participating in the Fair’s virtual edition to chat about one specific work. I was excited to have the chance to talk with artists Karen Black and Mason Kimber and my (very animated…) conversations with them are below. I don’t think I have a career in television journalism ahead of me (the ratio of thrilling : terrifying too razor thin apart from anything else!) but I will always say yes to the chance to sit down with someone and unpick why and how they do what they do.

Apologies for the lack of subtitles on the films (you can turn on closed captions if you watch them in YouTube.)

Elizabeth Willing profile for Art Collector magazine

I had the total pleasure of writing about Elizabeth Willing’s work a few months ago for the latest issue of Art Collector magazine. I wasn’t familiar with her work before the commission so it was a wonderful opportunity to engage with her practice, which is so intelligent and witty and nuanced. I say it all the time, but getting to talk to an artist about their work and to unpick what drives them to make is one of my greatest pleasures. And Liz is so beautifully articulate and thoughtful.
