Art writing workshop with Woollahra Art Gallery

Last week I had the opportunity to work with Woollahra Art Gallery to deliver a workshop on art writing to a group of high school art students.

Using the current exhibitions, including work by Sue Jo Wright, Mel Booth and the Little Umbrella Collective, students undertook a series of scaffolded activities designed to get them thinking and feeling their way through the space, gathering granular details of works as well as bodily responses and any material/emotional associations they might make.

The group then worked to write a series of new wall labels, as well as propose a series of hypothetical interview questions for the artists.

I was delighted, challenged and inspired by the different creative approaches and questions that this group of young people brought to these activities and conversations and I really appreciated the opportunity to work with Woollahra Gallery in this context.
